What is the Project?

Welcome to our innovative project aimed at supporting students in navigating the challenges of academic and personal life while promoting their mental health and well-being. Our project focuses on facilitating self-assessment for mental health issues in four critical areas: stress levels, presence of psychiatric disorders or symptoms, mental health risk, and mental strength. Through a simple and user-friendly methodology, we aim to empower students to understand their challenges better, access appropriate support, and embark on a journey towards improved well-being.. We invite you to register and complete our questionnaire. This questionnaire is designed to explore the nature of challenges you may be facing in your   life.  Following the completion of the questionnaire, you will have the opportunity to screen and examine mental health issues related to the challenges you have identified. Our self-assessment tools will help you gain insights into your stress levels, identify potential psychiatric disorders or symptoms, assess your mental health risk factors, and evaluate your mental strength. By engaging in this process, you will gain a deeper understanding of your mental health status and areas for growth. After completing the self-assessment, you will receive a descriptive report that narrates your strengths and challenges based on the information you have provided. This personalized report will highlight areas where you excel and areas where you may need additional support. By examining your strengths and challenges in detail, you will be better equipped to address any barriers to your well-being and make informed decisions about your next steps. the screening scales

What is this Tools ?

1. Psychometric Scales
The Mansik Shakti initiative employs a set of psychometric scales designed to measure various noncognitive factors that influence student success and mental health. These scales include assessments for level of stress, its nature , psychiatric warning symptoms, mental health conditions and risk, and resilience, along with level of functioning. Each scale has been validated for the Indian student population to ensure cultural relevance and accuracy.
Significance:
By identifying levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, the tools help in early detection of mental health issues. Measuring resilience and self-efficacy provides insights into a student’s ability to cope with challenges and believe in their capacity to succeed.
2. Results using evidence-based criteria
The App’s algorithm analyses the data and clearly brings out results which indicate

  • 1-presence of unusual stress,
  • 2-serious concerns and challenges,
  • 3-presence of mental health warning
  • 4-presence of symptoms in significant severity
  • 5- mental health risk
  • 6- mental strength based upon resilience and level of functioning
3. The second set of criteria in the algorithm developed ‘guided-decision-making’ and makes one out of three recommendations
  • 1. need to see a counsellor
  • 2. need to see a psychiatrist
  • 3. To continue life-training program and mental health development and resource to mental health education
  • These outcomes are determined by using set criteria e.g. presence of a psychiatric warning symptom demands a psychiatric evaluation or presence of high level of stress in conjunction with mental health risk demands connecting with a counselor
Significance of the Tools
The Mansik Shakti self-assessment tools play a critical role in the overall mission of the initiative by:
  • 1. Early Detection: By regularly assessing mental health indicators, the tools help in the early identification of students at risk, allowing for timely intervention.
  • 2. Personalized Support: The comprehensive data collected through these tools enables the development of personalized support plans tailored to individual needs.
  • 3. Empowerment through Self-Awareness: The tools encourage students to become more aware of their mental health status and take proactive steps towards improvement.
  • 4. Data-Driven Insights: Aggregated data from the assessments provide valuable insights into the common challenges faced by students, informing broader mental health strategies and policies.
  • 5. Resource Allocation: Identifying areas of high need allows for more effective allocation of resources and support services.
By leveraging these tools, Mansik Shakti aims to create a supportive and responsive environment that promotes the mental well-being and academic success of students across India.

What is the Result?

In the bustling halls of educational institutions worldwide, a silent epidemic is steadily gaining ground—a psychological crisis that threatens the well-being of our students. Today, more than half of them stand at the brink of this looming crisis, grappling with severe stress, depression, suicidal thoughts, addiction, and a myriad of issues stemming from competitiveness, academic pressures, and peer expectations. This epidemic is spreading like wildfire, and it demands a concerted, urgent effort to save lives and safeguard the mental health of our future generations.

Amidst the pursuit of knowledge, personal growth, and dreams of success, students often confront a formidable foe—the invisible struggles within themselves. The modern educational landscape is rife with challenges that can have profound consequences on the psychological well-being of our youth. The relentless pressure to excel academically, secure high grades, and enter prestigious institutions weighs heavily on students' minds.

The psychological challenges of students are not isolated incidents but prevalent issues affecting individuals and communities across the globe. By bringing this issue into the public discourse, we can create a society that values the mental well-being of its students as highly as their academic achievements. Through awareness, education, and support, we can pave the way for a brighter, healthier future for young minds navigating the challenging path of education and personal growth. It is time for us all to think deeply and contribute actively to ensure that no student suffers in silence and that every student can succeed academically, emotionally, and mentally.

The desire to fit in and meet societal expectations can lead students to make choices that compromise their well-being. The fear of judgment and the desire to conform can lead to feelings of isolation.

The challenges students face goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. The burden of academic achievement, peer competition, and societal expectations can lead to psychological distress, including anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. In a world where grades and accomplishments often measure success, the emotional well-being of students can suffer silently.

In a world that values competition, students often face the daunting task of outshining their peers. The fear of falling behind or failing can be paralyzing. The digital age, while connecting students virtually, can also lead to emotional isolation. Social media's unrealistic portrayals of life can foster feelings of inadequacy.

As these challenges accumulate and intensify, students are increasingly vulnerable to the escalation of mental health issues. Pervasive stressors can morph into chronic anxiety, creating a constant state of apprehension and restlessness. The weight of expectations and the burden of academic demands can plunge students into the depths of depression, where hopelessness and despair prevail. For some, the struggle becomes unbearable, leading to the emergence of suicidal thoughts—a devastating and life-threatening manifestation of their pain. As a coping mechanism, some students turn to substances or behaviors that provide temporary relief but often lead to destructive addiction patterns.

Student Life, while often seen as a time of growth and opportunity, can also be fraught with numerous challenges that, if left unaddressed, may lead to severe psychological distress. These challenges range from academic pressures and social expectations to financial struggles and personal crises. As these challenges accumulate, students may become increasingly vulnerable to the development of mental health disorders, suicidal thoughts, or depression.

What to do?

Taking the first step towards addressing mental health challenges can be daunting. However, the journey to recovery and well-being begins with believing in yourself and deciding to speak up and seek help. Developing effective communication is a critical part of this process, enabling you to express your needs, share your experiences, and connect with others for support. This commentary explores the significance of believing in
